Doctor duo launches medical education in the Metaverse

The innovative medical duo, Prof. Dr. med. Petra Stute and Prof. Dr. med. Michael von Wolff are introducing virtual reality for medical training for the first time this week at the University Women's Hospital in Bern.

The enormous potential of virtual reality (VR) continues to be demonstrated, especially in the field of education. For some time now, doctors have been able to practise procedures on virtual bodies without risk. Now the innovative medical duo, Prof. Dr. med. Petra Stute and Prof. Dr. med. Michael von Wolff, University Women's Hospital Bern is introducing 3D models and the Metaverse for medical education for the first time this week. The duo's offer includes two 3D models of organs that can be loaded onto any end device using QR codes and used as visual aids for patient education. Expectant parents can thus see what the fetus looks like at 10 weeks of pregnancy.

Presentation at the World Congress

On 14 September, these innovative possibilities will be presented at the annual world congresses initiated by Stute and Wolff in Olten, Switzerland. The Department of Gynaecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine of the University Women's Hospital of the Inselspital Bern has been presenting practice-relevant contributions from internationally leading congresses such as NAMS and ESHRE at these events since 2011.

The impressive 3D models were created by Aimee Hutchinson, an award-winning medical illustrator from Northern Ireland. In addition to her work, she is involved in research into gynaecological diseases and has received several awards for her precision and commitment. Digital pioneer Sarah Montani is behind the concept and realisation in collaboration with Weblaw AG, Bern.

Stute and Wolff are convinced that these 3D models are an ideal tool for medical education and awareness. Will the Metaverse Gallery be accepted by the congress participants? The gallery is simple and accessible. So the chances are good that the models will prove useful, possibly integrating them into the future daily work of the medical profession.
