Metaverse introductory courses

Metaverse introductory courses are in vogue. Weblaw offers practical courses for virtually everyone.

The metaverse opens up unimagined potential for the future of the way we work and live. Further education programmes are flourishing: In addition to some universities, many colleges also offer courses in the areas of AR (augmented reality), VR (virtual reality) and MR (mixed reality), including the FFHS at the Gleisarena site in Zurich, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the University of Applied Sciences Graubünden and Kalaidos University of Applied Sciences.

However, if you want to get to grips with the metaverse under practical guidance, book a half-day introductory metaverse course, as offered by the Weblaw Academy within the scope of their Metaverse Lessons is offered.

Simulate a meeting in the beach pavilion

A work meeting with German colleagues takes place together with the customer in Vienna, who was working from home at the time. Something like this is practised every day in Metaverse courses in Switzerland. Thanks to VR, offices and meetings can be simulated from home - and take place in a mountain landscape or in a beach pavilion. A wireless VR headset and internet access are required. It is also advisable to take your first steps under the guidance of an experienced Metaverse user.

The direct benefits of what has been learnt are then worked out individually with each participant. "The metaverse is difficult to put into words. It has to be experienced and then the ideas bubble up as to what is suddenly possible," says digital pioneer Sarah Montani, who wrote the course programme. "Thanks to the avatars, we have the feeling in the Metaverse that we are together in one room, even though we are physically separated. We experience the course participants as very engaged, curious and they usually intuitively explore the possibilities of the virtual meeting room," says Martin V. Sampedrano Gonzalez, who is responsible for the Metaverse courses. "After the first steps in the Metaverse, it feels quite natural for most participants. Virtual meetings don't have the same impact as face-to-face meetings by comparison. Meetings in the Metaverse should iron out this weakness in future."

What do the participants report?

Participants state that the resolution of the VR monitors is still too low to work with the VR glasses for long periods of time. Most of them have fun and develop a team spirit with the other course participants, whom they get to know as avatars. Many can even imagine that social contacts can be strengthened through the metaverse. This is in line with the conclusions of a comprehensive study on the topic of hybrid work: Values of the metaverse: hybrid work in virtual meeting spaces.

"Everyone who maintains a website today will have a presence in the Metaverse in the future", predicts Sarah Montani. That's why it's important to get to grips with the new technologies.

The next public Metaverse introductory courses of the Weblaw Academy will take place on 9 December 2022 and 20 January 2023 at the Weblaw Campus Zurich @ FFHS Gleisarena in small groups.
