APOLLO Kreuzlingen addresses the relationship between reality and virtuality

From 23 - 26.03.2023, an exhibition will take place at the Apollo in Kreuzlingen that focuses on the relationship between reality and virtuality. During the Art Night on 25.03.2023, the theme of movement will be taken up with virtual reality (VR) experiences, among other things.

For the Art Night in Kreuzlingen and Constance on 25 March 2023 the APOLLO is celebrating its launch as a new cultural meeting place and space for contemporary art. Regional and international artists will present their digital works at the "reconnection cinema" exhibition.

The old cinema building from the 1930s thus becomes a play space for the possibilities of a new era. In addition to the former cinema auditorium, the entire building will be used for many different spaces.

Media intertwine

The relationship between reality and virtuality is complex, ambivalent and ambiguous. Today, the medium of film has largely left the cinema hall and spread across the entire digital field. Along these developments, the APOLLO is translated into an exhibition context in a new and contemporary way. Video works, generative art, sound installations, photography, performance and virtual reality intertwine in this exhibition. What the diverse works have in common is an interest in the ways of perceiving the interfaces between narration and digital technology. In this way, the interaction of technology, art and culture is explored.

In the field of digital art, "reconnection cinema" enables an artistic-discursive engagement with the relevant questions of the present. The artists not only use the technologies in their works, but also make them an instrument for the advancement of knowledge. With its ability to contextualise, alienate and abstract, digital art opens up contradictions, associations and new perspectives.

Framework programme with VR

The theme of this year's Art Night "Moves" will be translated into a visual and emotional context. Perhaps it is digital art that shows us a viable path to a humane future? In any case, it gives us reason to think about it and to enter into conversation with each other. During the exhibition, there will be a supporting programme with performances, tours, talks and virtual reality experiences.
