ATF Jelmoli Virtual Reality

Experience winning fashion pieces virtually

The Swiss Textile College (STF), together with Zeam and Jelmoli, creates a 3D experience in a virtual showroom in which selected winning fashion pieces from the project "The Power of Craft" are digitised and brought to life with virtual reality. A "metaverse" will be created for this. With augmented reality glasses, visitors can enter the "STF x Jelmoli Showroom" and virtually experience the digitised winning fashion pieces. These will be presented by avatars in a Metaverse fashion show at Jelmoli Zurich on 8 June 2022.

From the collaboration "STF x Jelmoli - The Power of Craft", nine fashion pieces that received the most votes in the voting will be put together into a unique, sustainable and limited Capsule Collection by the Modeco teaching studio directly in Zurich from sustainable fabrics produced in Switzerland. The collection will be available for purchase at Jelmoli in Zurich from 8 June 2022.

Digital Fashion Show

However, the collection will not be presented physically on 8 June 2022, but digitally, in a Metaverse fashion show and there not on real models, but by means of avatars. For this, the winning fashion pieces will be digitised in 3D and created as NFTs. An NFT is a non-fungible token, i.e. a non-exchangeable data unit that is stored on a blockchain, a kind of digital ledger, and can even be sold and traded. The fashion pieces are also displayed in a digital showroom. A "metaverse" is created so that visitors can enter this fashion room and attend the show. With augmented reality glasses, visitors enter the metaverse and thus the "STF x Jelmoli showroom", where they can view the digitalised fashion pieces from all sides as if they were walking through in person.

The digitised fashion pieces are also an answer to the environmentally damaging analogue fashion. Students at the STF Swiss Textile College have been designing virtual avatars for some time. With the help of 3D programmes, the previously physical production of prototypes can be omitted and resources saved. The creation of digital cutting patterns also means that less waste is produced during cutting.

From June onwards, selected fashion pieces from the collaboration will be presented on avatars in the shop window and on screens. The virtual showroom can be experienced over a month, from 8 June to 8 July 2022, on the 1st floor at Jelmoli in SPOTLITE. The simultaneous physical showroom at Jelmoli will be created by STF Interior Design students from recycled, former Jelmoli furniture.
