Bäderverein Festival invites you to swim in VR

With the project "Learning from Bathing", the two curators Isabelle Meiffert and Mirko Winkel want to pay tribute to traditional bathing culture. The first exhibition of their festival takes place from 6 September - it surprises with whimsical elements and virtual reality (VR) in the bathtub.

As early as 2000 years ago, Roman legionaries recognised the healing properties of thermal water and celebrated bathing in the thermal baths at the Limmatknie. The Baden Baths Association wants to bring this traditional bathing culture closer to the people in the region again and thus honour the cultural heritage accordingly. In order to achieve this goal, the association is pushing ahead with various sub-projects - including the project "Bäderkultur Baden". Isabelle Meiffert from Berlin and Mirko Winkel from Bern are curating the project this year.

A film festival at locations of the spa's history

The start of the so-called decelerated festival will be celebrated on 6 September at 6 pm. Until 19 September, films by the Berlin artist Bianca Kennedy will be presented from 2 to 7 p.m. each day at special locations in the history of the baths: in the Kurtheater, in the Hotel Blume and in the hall of the Limmathof. The presentation of the works takes place in cooperation with the international festival for animated film Fantoche.

Visitors can watch a film at each of these three venues free of charge. S

With VR in the bathtub

A bathtub is a safe and protected place where you can relax and let your thoughts out in a private environment. At the Atrium Hotel Blume, visitors can watch the animated 360-degree video "VR all in this together" in a bathtub and with virtual reality glasses. This is based on drawings by artist Bianca Kennedy and is intended to offer an immersive bathing experience for all the senses. The theatrical staging of the bathtub has been Kennedy's main theme for the past two years. Visitors leave their place as voyeurs with the 360° video as they step into the tub to bathe with six different people at the same time.
