Laax Baumwipfel

Treetop path with augmented reality

In the Grisons in Laax, the longest Tree top walk opened in the world. The "Senda dil Dragun" was opened in time for the summer holidays after about a year of construction. On the more than 1.5 kilometres, visitors can discover more than just nature, but autumn also augmented reality (AR) and a 73-metre-long slide can be found.

"The tree-top walk is a tourist beacon in the canton of Graubünden, which fits ideally into our natural surroundings," says Franz Gschwend, the mayor of Laax. The project was worked on in Laax for five years. First it was an idea, then a concept and now, after about a year of construction, the trail is a reality. In total, the trail is 1.56 kilometres long and up to 28 metres above the ground.

AR from autumn

In addition to the slide, the creators have put a lot of work into the digital accompanying offer, which will only be available in autumn. At the entry tower in Murschetg and on the four platforms of the trail, visitors will then be able to use a tablet to learn in augmented reality how the Flims landslide happened or which tree species are native to Laax. The aim is for visitors to gain a better understanding of the nature around them and its history with the help of AR. In addition, visitors will learn how tourism has developed in Laax.

A story about the path was invented especially for the children. So the children meet the narrator Ami Sabi, who meets them as an AR figure in the real world and guides them through the story with his friends. In doing so, he depends on the children's help. They embark on an adventure and thus become an active part of the story.

The adults meet the well-known actor Andrea Zogg as narrator, who also meets them as an AR figure in the real world and conveys the information either in the picture or through his narration off-screen. The topics are also illustrated by means of a 3D topology model.

Admission will be available for adults from 16 francs and for children from 8 francs. Tickets can be purchased via app, vending machines or also at the ticket office.
