First Switzerland-wide Virtual Reality E-Sport Tournament

On 9 November 2019, the first Showdown Masters will take place at Letzipark shopping centre in Zurich. The tournament will feature the new virtual reality game "Showdown" - a PvP shooter in which two opposing teams go into virtual battle. This does not work with a mouse and keyboard, but with full-body virtual reality from the company TrueVRSystems from Dietlikon ZH. The prize pot comprises 1000 Swiss francs.

A total of 32 teams of 2 people can register for the event until 5 November 2019. Participation is free of charge and not just for hobby gamers and e-sports enthusiasts. Anyone aged 12 and over can take part. Children and young people under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. The tournament will take place on Saturday, 9 November 2019 from 9:00 to 18:00, followed by an award ceremony. After the tournament, the event ends with an after-party at the "eParadise" gaming bar in Zurich Altstetten, which starts at 19:00.

There is also prize money up for grabs:

  1. Place CHF 600.-
  2. Place CHF 300.-
  3. Place CHF 100.-

Equipped with a backpack PC, VR goggles, a weapon with force feedback and hand and foot sensors, the immersion into the virtual scenario of "Showdown" begins. With the help of the attached sensors, the entire body is depicted as an avatar, which makes it possible to play in "full-body virtual reality". In this way, the individual players can see the actual body size and all movements of each player in real time.

"The regular customers of Fusion Arena have been asking for a competitive shooter for a long time. With this tournament, we are celebrating the launch of the Showdown game in style and inviting everyone to play or join in the excitement as a spectator," explains Ronny Tobler, CEO of Pandally AG, which operates the Fusion Arena in Letzipark.

32 teams can register for the tournament

To ensure that the large number of participants of 32 teams can be realised, the showdown tournament will be held on two separate playing surfaces. One playing area will be located in the regular Fusion Arena on the top floor of the shopping centre, while the second area will be set up in the mall especially for the tournament. Spectators will be able to follow the game live from all angles and shopping floors, just like in a stadium.

3 rounds on 3 levels or 3 chances to defeat the opposing team

In the VR game "Showdown", both teams find themselves in an abandoned military facility. This is divided into three floors with different layouts. One floor represents one round of the game. The aim is to hit the opposing team as often as possible in each level. Players who have been hit can reactivate by briefly returning to the starting point of their team colour. The team with the higher team score moves on to the next round, where it faces new opponents. Action, fun and teamwork are the prerequisites for prevailing against the other teams in the game.

Training facilities in Bern, Dietlikon and Zurich

Special training opportunities are offered especially for the Showdown tournament: In the Fusion Arena Zurich, every Monday from 18:00 - 21:00. In the Fusion Arena Bern every Wednesday from 19:00 - 22:00 and in the Virtual Reality Centre Dietlikon every Monday from 18:00 - 21:00. This gives interested participants the chance to train for the tournament at special conditions.
