Patent for possible PlayStation VR 2

The PlayStation 5 will be launched in autumn 2020 and Sony already confirmed some time ago that no new PlayStation VR will be released at the same time. However, the current VR headset will be compatible with the PS5 and PSVR 2 should follow at some point.

Now even a Patent has emerged showing a possible PlayStation VR 2 with numerous improvements that could provide a more modern experience. According to the patent, PSVR 2 could come with two front cameras and one camera on the back. Even the new motion controllers could contain a camera, according to the patent. An external camera is also mentioned for roomscale, with the familiar LEDs on the VR headset providing the detection.

Furthermore, PlayStation VR 2, which according to the patent at least visually resembles the current model, should be operated wirelessly, which is why an integrated power supply will be necessary. Of course, it is not certain that the patent will actually be implemented. However, PlayStation VR is selling well and Sony has already indicated several times that it wants to continue investing in virtual reality. PSVR 2 is therefore not unlikely and perhaps we can expect it in 2021 or 2022.
