"Google Search" shows animals in life-size via augmented reality

Circus Roncalli will replace live animal performances with dazzling 3D holograms in the future. Google Search is now following a similar path and also offers 3D models of animals for closer inspection.

German circus Roncalli is making circus history with its new show: for the first time, it is letting a hologram into the ring - instead of a real elephant. According to Science and Space, Roncalli uses an advanced set of projectors and lasers to project full-size holographic animals. This new technology can also take creative storytelling to the next level.

Bringing the wildlife home

Google is now also taking a similarly visionary step. In future, Google Search will display 3D models of animals (for example elephants, wolves, tigers or sharks). Using Google ARCore technology, the selected model can be brought directly into one's own living room. All that is needed is to enter the relevant animal in the Google search, and a corresponding button for displaying the 3D model will appear in the results.

So far, there is only a range of AR animals to choose from, but this is to be permanently expanded. So far, those looking for macaws, alligators, brown bears, cats, tigers, giant pandas, penguins, raccoons or Shetland ponies have found what they are looking for. It is guaranteed that many more can be found that have not yet been discovered.

So far, the new service has only been released for the USA, so the feature is not yet available everywhere and to every user. In this country, it can already work on iOS, provided the augmented reality function of the mobile device has been activated and the language setting of the Google search is set to "English". Android users, however, still have to be patient.
