Pro Sieben Sat 1 joins Holodeck

Pro Sieben Sat 1 is strengthening its position in the field of virtual reality and is joining Holodeck VR. The group is investing a single-digit million amount in the open content platform and wants to position itself in a market that is growing strongly in double figures.

Pro Sieben Sat 1 takes over 20 percent of Holodeck VR, which develops location-based virtual reality experiences. The Nuremberg-based technology company can thus benefit from synergies with the media group, for example the sales opportunities and various fields of application at Pro Sieben Sat 1.

Holodeck aims to grow strongly in the coming years and plans to expand its network from currently seven locations to 350 in 2022. The start-up's products are aimed at event organisers, operators of publicly used buildings and real estate owners. Groups of up to 20 people can immerse themselves in virtual worlds such as amusement parks, festivals or shopping centres via corresponding VR glasses. Several thousand guests per day can take part in Holodeck demonstrations. The original technology comes from the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits.

Pro Sieben Sat 1 wants to distribute the applications via the Jochen Schweizer Mydays Group, among others, in leisure and activity parks. The group also sees potential in the areas of content production, live broadcasting and in the sports business unit 7Sports. "With the help of this investment, we want to develop and offer new exciting VR experiences that are fun and easy to use and thus create a virtual reality offering for the next generation of users," says Jonathan Nowak Delgado, co-founder and CEO of Holodeck VR.

Back in 2017, there was an experiment with AR in the well-known programme Galileo, how we reported.
