World's first Virtual Reality CMS for shopfitting in use at Jegen

With the new HEGIAS software, Jegen AG is bringing an innovative development and visualisation tool into the company. The version of the world's first browser-based and automated virtual reality content management system for the construction and real estate industry, specially designed for shopfitting, revolutionises development, visualisation as well as consulting and also holds great potential in market research and online shopping.

Exciting times are ahead for the construction and planning industry. Like most industries, they are currently being completely transformed by the possibilities of digitalisation. One of the strongest buzzwords is virtual reality (VR). It enables the almost real inspection of projects in a new dimension and therefore allows an assessment to be made even before the plans are put into practice at great expense.

Impressive pilot project with Migros "Daily" shop format

Until recently, the production of such a VR application was also associated with high costs and only agencies specialised in VR could create virtual worlds. With HEGIAS this is changing on a grand scale.

Jegen AG, for example, is the first customer to work with the version of HEGIAS specialised in shopfitting. The pilot project with the Migros shop format "Daily" at Zollstrasse near the main train station in Zurich is already reaping very good feedback. Reto Jegen on the first demo date with Migros: "The people from Migros shop planning were impressed. According to them, they have never seen a system that so genuinely represents a shop in 3D.

HEGIAS revolutionises planning and customer advice

What is special about HEGIAS is not only its fidelity to reality, but above all its automation, which increases the speed of development and above all greatly reduces costs. Even inexperienced VR users can easily make changes with the content management system (CMS), such as changing materials, colours or repositioning, adding and removing objects.

With the software from HEGIAS, Jegen pulls his 3D models from the CAD by "drag n' drop" into a browser and can not only walk through them virtually, but also modify them directly in the virtual world in real time at any point during the planning phase.

HEGIAS is also multi-user capable and enables Jegen to virtually walk through the planned shop directly with the customer, show different variants and make changes in real time. For this, they do not have to be in the same room/location in reality. In addition to the much more efficient discussion of shopfitting concepts and plans with the customer, misunderstandings in the planning can also be eliminated.

Design validation in the virtual world

Today, Jegen regularly builds various furniture prototypes and even entire sample shops before major roll-outs in order to test the design and inspect it with all the decision-makers. With VR, this effort is reduced. It is much more efficient to "build" a virtual shop - especially in variants. At jegentotal they are sure: "The costs for sampling will decrease significantly thanks to VR and at the same time the certainty is increased that the customer has chosen the best design for him from the variants shown.

Outlook: Market research and the online retail revolution

Since the users can move through the virtual shop almost as if they were in real life, with their shopping trolleys or, for example, with a wheelchair or pram, this also makes informative test purchases possible. Head and eye tracking makes it easier to follow what the test consumers are looking at, which paths they choose through the shop and what they put in their virtual shopping basket. And this is also possible if the shop needs a revision of the layout while it is already in operation.

The technology will also offer brick-and-mortar retailers the opportunity to connect their digital and analogue business 1:1. Because the online and offline worlds should definitely not be thought of separately by retailers. In the future, the multi-user function will become all the more important the more people want to be advised virtually by a salesperson.
