SBB has big plans for Zurich main station: They want to make it the most digital railway station in the world. A new function in the SBB app is intended to contribute to this: augmented reality.
The new SBB app will support augmented reality in future. The functions were launched last Digitaltag demonstrated for the first time. All the user has to do is pick up their smartphone and the display shows them exactly where they are in the station. If they want to go to a particular platform, red arrows are shown on the display. They show the way through the ramified station building. Information on departure times is also displayed.
And that's not all: if you walk past a kiosk or a fast food outlet, for example, various offers pop up on the display. However, the app is not designed to collect data, explains an SBB employee at the information stand. "You can only enter your age, place of residence and gender." This way, everyone receives customised information. For example, different symbols appear for a child than for an adult. Different information for a tourist than for a Swiss person. Customers will be able to use the AR function for the first time in mid-2018 on the SBB test app "Preview".
