When the new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is released on 15 September 2017, VR users will need a new Gear VR headset according to the manufacturer, but it looks like the Note 8 will also fit into the older model of the VR glasses.
The buyer, Josue Feliciano, got his hands on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 at an early stage and tried out. He has his Samsung Gear VR previously used the S8+, which is also quite a large smartphone. The differences in size are therefore limited. And the result: the Note 8 apparently works without any problems with the latest Gear VR model.
However, Samsung says a new Gear VR is needed. "We have introduced a new Gear VR headset that accommodates the Galaxy Note 8 form factor while ensuring backward compatibility. We do not recommend using the Note 8 with older Gear VR headsets," says Samsung. However, a concrete reason is missing. It may have something to do with heat development, which is why initial tests should be awaited. Damage could well occur.
