Continuation: Experience report from the Shooter Game in the VR Centre

Part 2 of our Experience Report

It is always impressive how quickly the senses get used to the virtual environment. This was also the case with the shooter in the VR Centre.

When it started, we were standing in a virtual gallery. "Don't do anything you wouldn't do in real life!" was the one instruction from the game leaders. Ok; so in real life I would want to stay on the bridge that takes you to the other side and not jump down because it seems relatively high. I didn't feel like falling down anywhere in reality either. And since I had no idea whether I was really elevated somewhere, my pulse beat a little higher when we crossed the bridge for the first time. A really nice thrill!

From the pitfalls of the game or simply from incompetent players.

I think this was also one of the reasons why we stayed on one side, a bit like a camper, and in the end didn't manage the mission by a long way. It takes some experience to discover all the monsters in all the corners and to dare to move. We were also shot at ourselves. Fortunately, when we ran out of life force, we could recharge it by shaking hands. An amusing interaction idea that always gave a laugh and saved us many a virtual life.

In a particularly hectic phase, we actually managed to crash into each other. Another feat I managed as the first player: deactivating the gun several times on one button. That's why they want to make their own game weapons soon, Fabian said. The things are not robust enough for their purposes.

And it was clear that my colleague, contrary to the instructions of the game leaders, also had to lean against a wall - which of course did not exist in real life - for protection. Fail! Well, that's just it: two total beginners.

Conclusion: Fun and happy to do it again!

But despite the technical glitches, the whole thing was fun in any case! At the end of the 20 minutes, however, I had had enough, as the game play didn't change much. This is probably just the right amount of time for this shooter.

After the game, the pros gave us feedback and some tips for improvement. The shooter is also quite difficult to master with two players - you almost have to be three or practise a few times.

We also got a glimpse of the Explorer Mission, which definitely made me want to try it out. In contrast to the shooter, there are many more objects to interact with. Although we were also allowed to see behind the curtain and look at the rather empty hall with the real objects, I can imagine that Fabian and Philip's magic trick will work again for me. But I don't want to reveal too much more at this point: try it out yourself is the motto!

Just one more thing: whether I have enough nerve for the planned Horror Game I'm honestly not quite sure yet.
