Experience day: 175 years of Swiss railways

Switzerland is celebrating 175 years of Swiss railways. On 11 June, Stadler, SBB and Thurbo are organising an experience day in the border triangle to mark the occasion. Under the motto "Public transport without borders - cross-border transport", numerous railway-related experiences await visitors at the St. Margrethen station site from 9 am to 5 pm.

Stadler is also celebrating its 80th anniversary this year and opening the doors of its plant in St Margrethen to the public for the first time. The competence centre for double-decker multiple-unit trains was opened in 2020 and is the most modern production facility for rail vehicles in Europe.

VR in train construction

In addition to a tour of the factory, there are other highlights to discover. For example, visitors will gain an insight into how Stadler uses virtual reality in train construction.

A "Powerpack model" also shows how Stadler is developing pioneering, sustainable mobility solutions with hydrogen and batteries. The new SBB Interregio double-decker train, which Stadler is producing at its factory in St. Margrethen and which will be in service from 2024, will also be on display for the first time. For the youngest guests - and tired legs - there is also a little train that runs around the factory site.

Festivities throughout Eastern Switzerland on 11/12 June

To celebrate 175 years of Swiss Railways, there will be celebrations not only in St.Margrethen but throughout Eastern Switzerland. On the weekend of 11 and 12 June 2022, visitors can take a look behind the scenes of public transport at various festival locations in the cantons of Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Graubünden, Schwyz, St.Gallen and Thurgau.
