Energie Baden-Württemberg relies on AR and VR in training

The energy group Energie Baden-Württemberg (EnBW and Netze BW) has opened a new training and further education centre. inauguratedin which virtual reality and augmented reality are used.

When working with high voltages, electricians need to be able to perform every move correctly and the work steps must be practised intensively, as a mistake could have serious consequences. It should be possible to practise the right moves in a safe environment with the help of digital technology. For this reason, the electricity company BKW uses a VR training application developed by the Swiss agency Bandara was developed with which trainees can train switching operations realistically.

In the first version, our simulation includes the following scenario: The users are in front of a switchgear where a fuse has failed. The task now is to recognise the problem and - after equipping themselves with the correct protective equipment - rectify it. The VR application was developed for the Oculus Quest to enable the most flexible use possible.
