What is the best way to move around in VR? The curious cybershoes are also coming for the autonomous virtual reality glasses Oculus Quest. A Kickstarter campaign is due to start soon.
The topic of locomotion in VR remains an exciting one. Now a Kickstarter campaign is to be launched for very curious cybershoes, because the VR shoes are surprisingly worn while sitting: VR users sit on a swivel chair and move their legs, whereby rollers embedded in the soles allow them to glide gently back and forth on the floor. Sensors then transmit the movement to the Virtual Reality.
The cybershoes are supposed to create a more realistic walking experience and reduce the likelihood of motion sickness. By turning the chair, you specify the direction in which you want to walk through virtual worlds.
While earlier models were still cable-bound and only worked with PC VR glasses (comparison), this is no longer the case with the new Cybershoes: The VR shoes connect wirelessly via Bluetooth with Oculus Quest and Quest 2. For this, you have to attach a Cybershoes module to the housing and connect it via USB-C with the VR glasses.
Let's see what will prevail in the long run.
