Microsoft hopes for big VR success

With the upcoming Xbox Series X, Microsoft will not initially focus on virtual reality. Last year, Xbox boss Phil Spencer even said that its own customers would not ask for VR. Nevertheless, the company would like VR to be a success.

Phil Spencer's rather negative statement brought him criticism, which is why he put the whole thing into perspective, but it remains the case that VR will not be an issue for Xbox Series X for the time being. Now explained Phil Spencer his statement at the time again: "My main point was that I wanted to make it clear to our customers where our focus is. So if anyone was waiting for us to release a VR headset for the Xbox Series X, at launch or something... we're not going to do that." However, he can very well understand that there are definitely people who want VR.

According to Phil Spencer, it's not that easy to integrate VR support. Plugging in a VR headset is not enough. "There's a lot of work that goes into it," he says. It goes on to say, "The teams at Valve, Sony and Oculus doing this work know the complexities and what it takes to support this platform." Still, Microsoft would like to see VR have as much success as possible: "I don't hope VR goes away. I hope it gets bigger. I hope it becomes something that is so important that it would be natural for us to support it."
