"photo basel" takes place virtually

The opening of "photo basel" was actually planned for this week, and for the sixth time already. But the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted everything. The organisers have now decided to hold a virtual edition of this important Swiss photo fair, with all the galleries and their artists originally taking part from yesterday, Wednesday 17 to Sunday 21 June 2020.

From now on, you will never again have to wonder how a particular artwork will look in your home, office or collection - with a few clicks, you get the ultimate tool to experience the power of technology and instantly "beam" any artwork to any room of your choice, according to the Photo Basel website. As they are unable to hold the originally planned exhibition due to Corona, the 6th edition will now take place virtually.

Augmented reality is used to experience this 3D pleasure at home on any wall or computer screen. All that is needed is a marker that downloaded here and can be printed out, as well as the free Kuio app on the iphone. Then enter the name of the desired gallery, whose images are stored in the virtual state, and the virtual tour begins. To illustrate all this, there is a clip on YouTube:

A total of 38 selected galleries will be on display, featuring more than 850 works of art. You can search for both the galleries and the artists in the menu, or - and this is a novelty - you can take a virtual stroll through the entire fair. Each gallery stand also provides information on the exhibited works, such as size, editions and price, and you can enter into a direct dialogue with the gallery.

There will also be a light programme with artist and curator talks, as well as two special virtual exhibitions on the theme of vintage prints and young up-and-coming talent (rookies).

An overview of the exhibiting galleries and further information can be found on the corresponding website: http://de.photo-basel.com/

It is also great that numerous sponsors for the virtual edition are obviously still involved.
