Catching Edelweiss flyers with a tap of the finger

Edelweiss is launching an augmented reality experience in which Edelweiss flights to or from Buenos Aires can be searched for and captured in the sky in real time using a smartphone. Flight data can be seen in real time. But that's not all: whoever catches it may win and may even be on a plane themselves soon.

The Swiss airline Edelweiss is taking off with a real high-flyer AR app. The German agency Edelweiss was commissioned to design the mobile-first campaign. Thjnk commissioned. The centrepiece of the campaign is the "Catch a Flight" app and the interactive AR game within it. It allows you to scan the sky and see live in AR mode where the aeroplanes in the area are coming from and where they are heading. The most important thing is that you can catch Edelweiss aeroplanes in the sky with a tap of your finger. Because every Edelweiss Buenos Aires aeroplane caught is a chance to win a flight for two to Argentina.

In order to display all the information such as flight number, origin, destination and altitude in real time, the official live GPS flight data from the international aviation authority is used and fed into the AR game. Once the app has been started, it can determine the user's exact position in relation to the aircraft using GPS and the orientation of the smartphone. The specific circumstances don't matter: whether it's sunny, cloudy or at night, whether from the office, the tram or the bathtub - the app lets all Swiss people take part from anywhere.

The countdown to winning

There is a countdown to the next flights and the option of receiving push notifications to remind you so that you don't miss out on the chance to win. This way, all participants can win 36 direct flights with Edelweiss to Buenos Aires during the entire campaign period. For those who want to find out what there is to do in Argentina, there is a blog with inspiring excursion tips directly on the app. And if you want, you can also book flights directly via the app.

You can download Catch a Flight directly here: Apple App Store and Google Play.
