Shuttle Commander: New space experience for PSVR

Irish startup Immersive VR Education ("Apollo 11 VR", "Titanic VR") has released "Shuttle Commander" for PlayStation VR, with other VR platforms to follow at a later date.

In the new VR experience, you take part in historical space missions involving the transport and maintenance of the Hubble Space Telescope went. In a physics-based flight simulator, you even get to pilot the space shuttle "Discovery". Realistic Hubble space telescope missions and an exact replica of the shuttle cockpit are promised.

Tríona Foley, Marketing Executive at Immersive VR Education, said: "We knew we had an overwhelming task ahead of us. The Hubble telescope's servicing missions and discoveries will not be a walk in the park for a start-up studio. After all, the Space Shuttle is one of the longest serving and most successful spacecraft, as well as the most famous telescope. Working accurately and attention to detail were very important to us."

"Fortunately, NASA is very transparent and open about sharing its data. It makes available to the public an extensive database that spans decades of shuttle service. Schematics, images, camera footage and thousands of pages of instruction manuals have been extensively sifted through to ensure that we can do the most accurate reconstruction possible and provide a solid foundation for the work of our art, animation and audio departments," it continues. At official PlayStation Blog detailed insights into the development of "Shuttle Commander" are provided.
