42 hours in "Virtual Reality" Cologne resident breaks world record for continuous video gaming

Last weekend in Cologne, the world record for the longest time a person has played a computer game in virtual reality without interruption was broken: 42 hours is the new record to beat.

World records are always a bit crazy. So is the attempt to stay in VR for as long as possible. The old record was 36 hours, set a year earlier in Australia. The 28-year-old Andreas Hauber from Cologne had now set himself the goal of playing in virtual reality for at least 37 hours at a stretch. In the end, he even managed 42 hours. Hauber chose the fantasy and medieval epic "Skyrim VR" for this.

Strict regulations

The rules of Guiness World Records were strict: Hauber was not allowed to simply stand around inactive in the world, but had to be active all the time. If he had hesitated with an action for more than 20 seconds, the record would have been lost. He was also filmed throughout - if the technology had broken down and the image had been lost, it would have had the same effect.

Andreas Hauber, who develops VR computer games with his Cologne-based company N-Gon and wants to use the experience gained for his own game creations, was allowed to take a break of ten minutes per hour or to accumulate the break time.
