VR Glove nominated for Digital Health Award

Beim deutschen Digitalen Gesundheitspreis wird die Jury zwischen App, Virtual Reality Handschuh und anderen Projekten entscheiden. Der nominierte  „Cynteract Glove for the Virtual“ soll gerade bei jungen Menschen für Rehabilitationszwecke eingesetzt werden.

The jury of the Novartis Pharma and Sandoz Deutschland/Hexal Digital Health Award has selected seven top candidates from 82 entries. According to the judges, these have the potential to sustainably improve healthcare in Germany with digital tools. The four-member jury will now select three winners from the competitors. The winners will then be announced in Berlin on 15 March. The Digital Health Prize is endowed with prize money totalling 50,000 euros.

Bulky name - simple rehab

Mit dabei ist auch ein Virtual Reality Handschuh. Der Handschuh „Cynteract Glove for the Virtual“ – oder zu Deutsch ebenso sperrig „Interaktive Rehabilitationshandschuh“ – von der Firma Cynteract GmbH is intended to optimise the often monotonous and cost-intensive rehabilitation of hand injuries and motivate patients to train their injured hand in virtual games.

An integrated motor makes it possible to exert force on fingers via cords and thus give a player haptic feedback. It is also intended to prevent poor posture and chronic complaints that can affect video gamers and smartphone users due to frequent, limited strain.

Supporting your own friend during rehab

Das sehr junge Team des Aachener Startups wurde inspiriert durch einen Freund, der bereits mit 15 Jahren einen Schlaganfall erlitt. Infolgedessen musste er eine für ihn schwierige, weil langweilige und eintönige, Rehabilitation über sich ergehen lassen, berichten die Enwickler.  „Nach einer kurzen Zeit beendete unser Freund seine Rehabilitation. Dies führte zu einer Verschlechterung seiner Handfunktion. Da wir um ihn besorgt waren, nahmen wir uns vor, eine Lösung zu finden. Wir entwickelten einen Handschuh mit Sensoren und Motoren, mit dem der Patient Spiele steuern kann, während er – unterbewusst – seine Rehabilitationsübungen ausführt.“

Gaming desired

Normally, parents don't like it when children and teenagers spend hours gaming or are busy on their smartphones half the day. But in this case, it will definitely be different.
