X Rebirth VR Edition for Oculus Rift & HTC Vive

Egosoft has released the "X Rebirth VR Edition" for Oculus Rift with Touch and HTC Vive. The space game is available as Early Access version via Steam for HTC Vive and for Oculus Rift via the Oculus Store available.

The "X Rebirth VR Edition" is a standalone game based on "X Rebirth: Home of Light". The title has been completely redesigned for a virtual reality experience and optimised accordingly, according to the developer: "Using the latest advances in VR technology such as Oculus Rift with Touch Controller and HTC Vive, X Rebirth VR Edition lets players explore space in a way never before possible," the developer promises.

Egosoft wants to make the game available as early as possible via the Early Access phase in order to gather feedback from VR gamers. According to the manufacturer, the early vision of the space adventure focusses on two important points:

• The VR controller based interface: X Rebirth VR Edition has an exciting new input method. The HTC Vive or Oculus Touch controllers can be used to manipulate elements of the interface in the virtual environment. Egosoft is hoping to receive feedback from players on the quality of the input in order to further improve it before release.
• The new Vulkan-based graphics engine is at a very early stage of development and is also intended as the basis for X4. The early access phase of X Rebirth VR Edition offers Egosoft many opportunities to test this new technology on a wide range of different hardware.
