Pico has released its latest firmware (OS 5.7.0) for the Pico 4 headset. The update brings numerous improvements, both in hand tracking, streaming PC VR content and spatial tracking in the dark.
The latest firmware update in version OS 5.7.0 brings some interesting new features to the Pico 4. One of the best new free features for the headset from the TikTok forge is more accurate and stable (hand) tracking.
For this purpose, Pico has improved some of the algorithms, which should minimise the previous trembling and flickering of the virtual hands. In addition, the 6DoF algorithms have also been refined, which has improved spatial tracking in dark and large rooms in particular. Previously, under such conditions, there were occasional jerks or trembling effects in the head area.
Additional sharpness filter for PC VR streaming
An interesting innovation also includes a little treat for PC VR. Those who have not yet Virtual Desktop (fee required) for streaming PC VR content, Pico's own (free) streaming assistant can look forward to an additional sharpness filter with variable setting rates between 1 and 100 per cent. According to the changelog the behaviour of the controller in PC-VR has also been optimised a little.
New video functions
The new firmware in version 5.7.0 also contains a number of new recording functions. Users and content creators can now also record in a vertical format at an aspect ratio of 9:16. The update also brings a higher image stabilisation rate and the possibility to call up recorded sequences directly without switching to a file manager. Improvements to the sharpness of the video player have also been updated.
Reading credit cards in VR
One exceptional feature is the possibility of being able to read in credit card data directly from the passthrough mode, for example, which saves tedious typing of the numbers. Pico has also improved the browser performance and the user interface of the headset browser.
The update in version 5.7.0 has been distributed for a few weeks and plays itself automatically when the VR headset is connected to the power or the battery charge level is at about 50 percent.
