International Literature Festival BuchBasel with Virtual Reality

The BuchBasel International Literature Festival is a place of literary exchange, a meeting place between authors from all over the world and literature lovers from the tri-border region. The varied main programme takes place from 18 to 20 November and also includes a virtual reality performance.

BuchBasel is the largest curated festival with an international focus in Switzerland. It is characterised by a varied and committed programme that is not afraid to take up contemporary (literary) debates. For three days, a dense programme of events is presented: There are classic water glass readings, experimental literary presentations, crossover formats with music, multimedia formats, a series dealing with digital literature, as well as mediation and children's events.

This year, the literature festival will focus on the theme of "Entgrenzen" (breaking down boundaries). The festival centre is the Volkshaus Basel. In addition, there are many other venues in Kleinbasel.

Series Potential Digital

Being online has also become part of everyday life for literature. The Potenzial Digital series presents forms of literature and its mediation that are explicitly conceived for the digital space. It shows what literature can do and be. This ranges from a virtual reality cinema to a dialogue with an artificial intelligence.

Symbiosis of literature and virtual reality

So on Saturday, 19.11.22, there will be a screening at the Volkshaus by Klaus Merz & Sandro Zollinger called LOS. We already wrote about the project a good two years ago. reports.

In his search for stability, Peter Thaler sets off on a hike into the mountains. He will not return. Based on a true incident, Klaus Merz tells in LOS (Haymon Verlag, 2005) about saying goodbye, the everyday and the final. Filmmaker Sandro Zollinger has created a new virtual world based on this story. The story LOS became a symbiosis of literature and virtual reality. A literary experience awaits you, somewhere between a reading, cinema and the future.
