The Aargauer Kunsthaus presents in "Davor - In it - Afterwards. The Collection in Transition" presents a cross-section of the ever-growing collection of Swiss art that has formed the foundation in Aarau from the very beginning - since 1861.
The collection of the Aargauer Kunsthaus now comprises over 20,000 works of Swiss art from the 18th century to the present day. Donations and deposits, for example from the Ringier Collection or from the Friends of the Aargau Art Collection, contribute to making it the most important collection in the Swiss art landscape today. Contemporary works provide fresh impulses and create surprising references within the collection. This show focuses on contemporary art.
In three chapters, the narrative arc of the exhibition spans the entire area of the Kunsthaus: In the basement - the Before - the past is reflected; on the ground floor - In it - the present is questioned; on the upper floor - Afterwards - one ventures a look into the future. Chronological principles of order are largely dispensed with; instead, there is an examination of space and time and questions within the installations laid out in many works of art..
AR Tour
For the individual tour, visitors have free access to a digital mediation, a newly developed augmented reality service that currently provides in-depth insights into 14 (20 are planned at the end) selected works in the exhibition. With a wide variety of access points, such as information on the history of the pictures' creation, information on which other works inspired the artists, and light-hearted elements such as a picture by Max Matter satirising Switzerland as a "souvenir", the AR adds yet another element.
The range is very broad: in the AR, for example, you will find the work of Didier Rittener or one by Marc Bauer, where visitors can follow its construction. Visitors will also find a large wall piece by Alex Hanimann, earlier versions of which can be discovered in the AR app. The work "HELL, YES!" by Ugo Rondinone also has AR access.
For the implementation, the software company clear view from Basel are involved.
The exhibition will run until 07 August 2022.
