Tracking waste with VR

What actually happens to waste after it leaves our household and what added value can be generated from it? Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE) used virtual reality to answer this question in the most innovative and interactive way possible.

S-GE is the official Swiss organisation for export promotion and location promotion with offices in all parts of Switzerland and in 31 countries with around 200 employees. S-GE supports Swiss SMEs with their international business and innovative foreign companies with their relocation to Switzerland. vision360 GmbH was commissioned to organise three 360-
degree films with different focal points.

The journey ranges from waste disposal and incineration to the recovery of precious metals and the generation of electricity, district heating and process steam. In order to make this varied, vision360 GmbH, 360-degree

The result is a look behind the scenes, which shows viewers the function and added value of a waste incineration plant and is intended to expand their own knowledge.

Intention of Switzerland Global Enterprise

"The aim was to use virtual reality technology to bring foreign decision-makers and authorities closer to the Swiss technologies in our waste incineration plants and to put them at the centre of the action or allow them to immerse themselves in the waste incineration plants. Due to the ongoing Covid travel restrictions, we are doing this without the hassle and expense of travelling, with the long-term and sustainable goal of bringing Swiss technology abroad." The three VR films were presented to the target group as part of an online event, after which they were put to questions from the online audience in a panel discussion with the support of various industry experts and project managers. "The participants of the webinar, i.e. the politicians, decision-makers and authorities of
potential waste incineration plants, found it immensely exciting, stimulating and entertaining to inspect the Swiss waste incineration plants, which are far away from their homes, and to take a look inside the incinerator or to be transported away with the waste.
