RendeverFit is a virtual reality ( VR) fitness platform for seniors that promises overall health through exercise and socialising.
Founded in 2016, Rendever is a Boston-based start-up dedicated to fighting age-related dementia, depression and loneliness by developing VR experiences for seniors. Users can take part in group activities, visit places from their past and keep in touch with distant family members, among other things, in virtual reality.
RendeverFit is a new platform with which the start-up includes physical activity for the first time. The company cites studies that show that regular exercise at an advanced age can prevent disease and delay dementia.
The senior fitness programme offers these activities
Three modules are available for the launch. Beat Saber is not included. Instead, seniors can ride bicycles together, compete in virtual squash and paint spatially with Multibrush. Multibrush is a Tilt Brush clone with multiplayer support, programmed by Rendever co-founder Thomas Neumann. The VR app is available free of charge in the App Lab.
"Rendeverfit combines physical exercise with socialising to help retirement homes add a fun and dynamic platform to their care programme," says co-founder and CEO Kyle Rand on the occasion of the announcement. The implemented fitness programme involves the whole body, according to Rand.
RendeverFit: Rollout is end of 2021
The start-up also announces that it has received two million US dollars for further research. The funding is provided by the NIH, a US agency of the Department of Health and Human Services that awards research grants.
RendeverFit will be officially launched on 13 September at the Argentum Conference & Expo 2021 in Phoenix, Arizona. There, interested parties can try out the platform for themselves for the first time. Retirement homes and healthcare organisations can already pre-order on the official website. RendeverFit will be rolled out from December 2021.
