AR egg hunt at SPAR

An innovative Easter promotion awaited customers in SPAR stores throughout German-speaking Switzerland this year: Customers could use their smartphones to search for virtual Easter eggs.

The agency Bandara developed a web-based augmented reality experience for this purpose: a QR code at the entrance to the shop took customers to a landing page where, after a brief instruction, they could start the AR mode and go in search of virtual eggs in the shop. Anyone who found three out of a total of five hidden eggs could take part in the prize draw. The prizes included SPAR shopping vouchers and admission to Europapark.

"Augmented reality applications no longer require an app download," says Lukas Haltmeier, Online Marketing Manager at SPAR Handels AG. "This means that the technology is now also very attractive for use in the retail sector."
