The Elbphilharmonie, the famous concert hall in Hamburg, is breaking new ground and offering virtual experiences.
To have the Elbphilharmonie all to yourself for once: the stage in the centre of the deserted hall, surrounded by tiers of spectators that build up around it in terraces. The hall glows in golden yellow light. With a click to the front, you find yourself directly in front of the organ and in the centre of the podium, as if you were about to give a concert in person.
With a further click, it is possible to take a closer look at the large honeycomb-like walls that surround the podium up to the first upper tier. The draughty main foyer and the well-known, but often windy, Plaza viewing terrace can also be visited, including a panoramic view over the harbour. And all this while sitting cosily on a warm sofa at home.
Various virtual experiences
"We are currently working on a new 360-degree project that will enable new perspectives of the building with the help of drone technology," says Jan Reuter from the Elbphilharmonie.
This project is being realised by Nicolas Chibac, co-founder of the Virtual Reality Headquarters (VRHQ). He used a drone to explore the SkyTrip360 which allows you to explore the whole of Hamburg from a bird's eye view. "You can already view the Elbphilharmonie in 360 degrees online, but that is not yet the intense experience that we usually create. Our aim is always to create the greatest possible immersion. With Skytrip, you will fly over Hamburg, dive into the Elphi, fly through the plaza, through the foyer and into the concert hall," explains Chibac.
You can meet up virtually with a person from another city via Skytrip, chat during the flight and move through space as avatars. This virtual journey is planned for various countries and cities. "Our aim is not only to fly over the cities, but also to immerse ourselves in certain places so that we can experience them."
