IWC Schaffhausen is launching a smartphone app to coincide with the Watches and Wonders digital exhibition. The signature launch feature is a virtual watch try-on based on augmented reality (AR). Customers can point their camera at their wrist and virtually try on IWC's 2021 novelties.
The mobile app represents an exciting new channel to engage with IWC digitally and always offers the latest insight into the IWC universe. The most important launch feature is a virtual watch try-on based on augmented reality (AR) technology. Customers can point the camera of their smartphone at their wrist, where they can then see a watch in its actual size. This new functionality not only makes IWC's high-quality mechanical timepieces much more tangible, but also allows customers to compare different case diameters.
"For IWC, technology is never just an end in itself, but always a means to improve our customers' experience and offer tangible added value. This year's Watches and Wonders is taking place virtually again, but we wanted to make sure that our partners, customers and fans can see our new products on their wrists when we unveil them tomorrow. Recent advances in AR technology have been a game changer, allowing us to bring our watches virtually to people's homes," explains Dominic Weir, Chief Digital Officer of IWC Schaffhausen.
Features and storytelling
In addition to the virtual watch fitting, the app is filled with exciting features and exclusive content about the world of IWC. The brand is also planning to tell exciting stories as part of its newly designed podcast format. The launch guest is none other than seven-time F1TM world champion and IWC brand ambassador Lewis Hamilton. Over the coming months, IWC will gradually and continuously improve and expand the app with new functions and content to enhance the customer experience.
The new IWC APP will initially be available in English and Chinese. Users can download it for iOS from the Apple App Store. In future, IWC will also offer other languages and a version for Android users.
This is not the first project with VR or AR for IWC, as we reported. The new IWC Racing Works Store in Zurich has been combining racing and watchmaking with innovative digital applications since last year.
