Aargau logistics innovator Swisslog receives prestigious award in Dubai

At this year's Seamless Middle East in Dubai, the Aargau-based logistics company Swisslog, the world's leading provider of data- and robot-based automated logistics solutions, wins in the category best digital transformation and innovation solution for its innovative application SynQ Warehouse Management Software (WMS). The overall solution also includes a so-called Virtual Reality Training Manager.

SynQ stands for Synchronised Intelligence and is a modular, service-oriented software platform for warehouse management and material flow orchestration. It provides precise functions required to optimise warehouse operations. The software platform integrates intelligence into operations and optimises the performance of a company's automated and manual warehouse equipment in the best possible way. It was precisely this solution that won Swisslog the Seamless Middle East Award in Dubai.

The Seamless Awards recognise excellence by recognising companies and individuals that continuously set standards of excellence and initiate the most innovative technological advances in the region.

VR training for more efficiency

The Virtual Reality Training Manager allows end users to train pickers in a virtual warehouse event before they are at the practical work. The training process was done virtually and the operational functionality of Swisslog's SynQ WMS solution was used accordingly.

Picking and palletising is one of the most time-consuming processes and accounts for up to 60% of operating costs in warehouses and distribution centres. The Swisslog VR Training Manager application introduces a new approach to training that significantly increases the efficiency of warehouse picking staff. With more efficient staff, picking is more accurate, and fewer errors mean a reduction in the costs and labour associated with correcting picking errors. Training can also take place in a way that does not disrupt ongoing operations in a busy warehouse.

Visualisation even before realisation

Of course, users of the solution can see the facility in action in VR before it is actually realised. In this way, past, present and future operational processes can be visualised with VR, which in turn enables prototyping and also ergonomic tests.
