Teaching material publisher wins Worlddidac Awards with AR App

Lehrmittelverlag St.Gallen is a service provider for schools in the Canton of St.Gallen and the whole of German-speaking Switzerland. As a producing publisher, Lehrmittelverlag St.Gallen develops teaching materials, learning applications and learning support systems for primary schools. The publisher specialises in digital learning media in particular and is considered a successful pioneer and innovator in this field throughout Switzerland. It has recently started making products available on its LMVSG mobile app.

Deepening lessons with AR

The zikzak teaching aid was developed for the subject area Nature, Man, Society (NMG) in 5th to 9th grade. It has a cross-media structure: The printed booklet contains contact points where pupils can use their devices to scan themselves into virtual visualisation and in-depth levels.

zikzak uses augmented reality: additional or superimposed computer-generated information, objects and sequences. Teachers can download an online platform with learning tasks to accompany the zikzak booklet. The learning tasks contain videos, audio content and images to match the content of the booklet.

zikzak makes digital technology usable for teacher-led lessons. This concept convinced the jury of the Worlddidac Award. Such a teaching aid is great for the whole of Switzerland. It always offers new ideas and topics and the tasks are structured in such a way that all pupils can find something that challenges and interests them. Thanks to the LMVSG app, pupils can learn additional content from texts or difficult words can be explained. It is something new that has not yet been used in lessons in this way.

High-calibre award

Since 1984, the international panel of experts appointed by the Worlddidac Foundation has been meeting in Bern to assess educational products from all over the world. Thanks to the professional and elaborate assessment, the award enjoys a high reputation in the education sector. The winners of the award are announced by the Worlddidac Association on the national and international education stage.
