Professional footballers are currently using VR for training

The coronavirus crisis is shaking up the entire professional sport. However, the Premier League teams are finding a new training method to prepare for a resumption.

Already in June 2017 - time flies - reported We talk about the German football team's new weapon. It seems that VR is becoming more and more popular. More and more Premier League clubs are also using modern training methods that are controlled by software, be it for the circle game, the rondo or the simple goal finish.

It's no wonder that VR training is now also being suggested to the players in order to get through the break in play due to the coronavirus crisis in the best possible way.

Home office without competition mode

In addition to traditional workouts, virtual reality can simulate the competition that players would otherwise miss out on indefinitely. Players such as those at Liverpool FC have already been encouraged to work from home because training centres have been closed due to the pandemic.

The Daily Mail spoke to Michael Antonio from West Ham United, who trained three times last week alone with VR equipment, which he has been using since August. Like other players, the Englishman relies on the Rezzil system from a Manchester-based company of the same name, which has Vincent Kompany (formerly of Manchester City and HSV), a well-known name, as a consultant.

Rezzil consists of VR goggles and sensors on the feet and shin guards, allowing the user to simulate situations from previous games and solve them.

With VR training, a player can train his sensory acuity and perception on the pitch. Not really one of his strengths, but Antonio has noticed that his perception has improved, the 29-year-old revealed to the British magazine's sports editorial team.

Avoidance of social contacts

The Rezzil system was originally designed for rehabilitation training after injuries. In corona isolation, however, it offers a good alternative to the rondo or five-a-side, so that social contact can be avoided. He feels a real sensation, the whole body feels like it is kicking something and physically playing football.

If other teams make similar upgrades, a continuation of the Premier League is also conceivable in sporting terms and without distorting competition.
