Indie studio Pixel Reef has announced that VR exploration and adventure game Paper Beast will be released for PlayStation VR on 24 March 2020. A new trailer has also been released.
The new game from Eric Chahi, the game designer behind Another World, Heart of Darkness and From Dust, is a dream-like odyssey in which you discover a wild, simulated ecosystem created from lost internet data. In this unexplored, artificial world, "delicate bonds are formed between fascinating, exotic and enthralling creatures and the player to solve the environmental puzzles and uncover the mysteries of the game".
Features of Paper Beast
- Paper Beast was created from the ground up for virtual reality: by experimenting with the environment and its actions, players will gradually come to understand the mysterious world through the real-time consequences they create.
- Two modes are available for Paper Beast: Adventure Mode, where players explore the dreamlike world inhabited by fascinating creatures, and Sandbox Mode, an almost infinite space for experimentation.
- As the first explorer of this pristine land, players will find that interacting with these creatures is a key aspect of the gameplay. As they progress through the game, working with the fauna will help them shape the environment, overcome obstacles and solve environmental puzzles.
- The sandbox mode resembles a God-Game experience, where experimentation and the ecosystem play an important role. The player can shape the terrain, play with the weather and interact with creatures and plants. All consequences are calculated in real time by the engine that powers Paper Beast.
