Sony Interactive Entertainment is closing its studio in Manchester. The branch was only founded in 2015 to develop games for PlayStation VR. Accordingly, the studio did not last long.
Sony Interactive Entertainment justifies the unpleasant measure by saying that it wants to improve efficiency and operational effectiveness. This is the third UK studio Sony has closed during this console generation (Guerrilla Cambridge in 2017 and Evolution in 2016). Both studios were also working on PlayStation VR projects prior to their closure.
Just a few days ago we reported about itthat the Manchester studio would be working on a new AAA game for PlayStation VR. New staff was even being sought in this context. What will become of the VR title is unclear. It has probably been discontinued. Or another studio will take care of it from now on.
