Abu Dhabi secures the world record for the largest AR screen

Abu Dhabi was awarded the Guinness World Record for installing the world's largest augmented reality (AR) screen in London.

The AR screen, which used the Piccadilly Lights digital billboard and took up over 500 square metres of space, captured real-time images of people near the statue of Eros in the city's Piccadilly Circus and digitally placed them under some of Abu Dhabi's most famous landmarks using 3D AR overlays.

Ali Al Shaiba, executive director of tourism and marketing at DCT in Abu Dhabi, said: "By standing near the fountain in the square, you will be captured by the high-tech camera on site, which will be used specifically for the promotion. You will be transported to some of Abu Dhabi's most famous attractions, such as the family-friendly indoor theme park Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, the natural paradise of Sir Bani Yas Island and the breathtaking Sheikh Zayed Mosque. Every landmark in the capital has been brought to life with innovative 3D overlays in London. "

In December, Siemens opened a Digital Grid Center in Abu Dhabi to drive the digitalisation of energy systems and support smarter cities and industry in the Middle East. The centre would enable Siemens to work with customers to develop, demonstrate and test digital energy solutions and provide remote support for the utilities, oil and gas, industrial and infrastructure sectors. In addition, lab simulations and live data connections will be used to provide remote maintenance and support for customer operations, including predictive and corrective maintenance, simulation and testing.
