Visit Notre-Dame in VR

On the occasion of the European Heritage Days on 21 and 22 September 2019, Ubisoft presented a virtual reality tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site for the first time at UNESCO headquarters. Notre-Dame de Paris.

Visitors were able to explore the building in 10 different areas, from the nave to the transept to the choir in the interior. There was also the opportunity to access viewpoints not normally open to the public, either from the roof or from a hot air balloon.

The VR experience is based on the version of Notre-Dame that Ubisoft developed for the game "Assassin's Creed Unity", which was released in 2014 and takes place in Paris during the French Revolution. The demonstration at UNESCO was just the beginning, as the VR experience is to be made accessible to more people in the future. Otherwise, a 360 degree video can be viewed.

"For 30 years, Ubisoft has been developing immersive worlds where players can entertain themselves or, as in the case of the Assassin's Creed series, discover and experience part of the world's cultural heritage," says Deborah Papiernik, SVP New Business at Ubisoft. "We are proud to showcase the excellence of our team in the creation of Assassin's Creed Unity and to allow the public to visit the cathedral thanks to this virtual reality experience."
