VR Book: Edition Digital Culture

In its sixth edition, the bilingual publication Digital Culture sheds light on the potential of new forms of immersion in the field of culture with examples from film, television, museums, art, education, entertainment and gaming. Projects such as Birdly, Desktop Jacob Burckhardt Digital and the work of Mélodie Mousset are presented. Side views of industry (medicine, architecture) complement the presentation.

Digital change is transforming our society at a breathtaking pace. New cultural, economic and political questions are constantly arising. The publication series Edition Digital Culture examines this change in the field of culture. Thanks to the public domain and the internet, yesterday's works already belong to the public today. Robotics, artificial intelligence and virtual reality will also characterise the cultural production of the future. The series allows artists and internationally renowned authors to have their say.

The sixth volume of the successful "Edition Digital Culture" series now reports on immersion in new, man-made realities. Virtual reality was on the wish list of computer developers from an early stage. The dream of overcoming the flat world of images is an old one and can already be seen in baroque church domes. The magic word is immersion, the immersion in an artificial environment. Digitalisation has now brought this dream within reach for science and business.

With contributions from Marc Bodmer, Jennifer Beck, Neal Hartman, Tina Sauerländer, Peggy Schoenegge, Maike Thies, Wolfgang Ullrich, Matthias Zehnder and Annina Zwettler, the topic is examined in detail.

The publisher of the book is the Migros Culture Percentage.
