Longest virtual reality water slide in the world and the first in Austria

The longest virtual reality waterslide in the world and the first in Austria was opened yesterday at Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg and can be used from today.

Planning for the conversion of the Twister slide into the first virtual reality waterslide in Austria began back in summer 2018. After an intensive conversion phase of just under 6 weeks, the plan to convert the Sun spa to make it even more attractive for families and kids, so that it can continue to play in the "top league" internationally.

First VR water slide in Austria

The first water slide experience with virtual reality goggles marks the beginning of a new era of water sliding in Austria. On the 202 metre long "Space Twister" water slide, all bathers aged 7 and over can immerse themselves in one of the 3 fascinating worlds "Fantasy", "Dragons" or "Aliens"," says Managing Director Cerutti, delighted with this unique innovation. The rider wears his VR goggles with a 360° all-round view during the entire ride on the water Bob and thus becomes an actor himself. For 2 euros per slide, the VR experience transports bathers into the world of thousands of galaxies, shining planets, giant asteroids and spaceships as astronauts during the 50-second slide. Managing Director Cerutti smiles: "You feel like you're in a video game. Great emotions are definitely guaranteed throughout the ride and when you reach the landing basin."

Visionary VR technology from Ballast and Samsung

Together with leading slide manufacturer Wiegand.Maelzer GmbH, represented by Mr Sirko Adler, the VR professionals from Ballast and Samsung developed the combination of state-of-the-art VR technology and water slides. Ballast CEO Stephen Greenwood and his team designed the three worlds of experience "World of Fantasy", "World of Dragons" and "World of Aliens". The visual part was made possible by smartphone partner and innovation leader Samsung with the help of waterproof Galaxy S8 displays. The lightweight VR goggles are barely noticeable shortly after putting them on. Velcro fasteners and elasticated straps ensure that the device can withstand the slippery ride on any head. "The total investment volume amounts to €400,000," adds Managing Director Cerutti.
