Rossiya Segodnya wins prestigious award for autism VR project

The project of the International News Agency Rossiya Segodnya in VR format on the topic "Mechanics of autism. Why they react this way" was honoured by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) with second place in the competition for the "European Digital Media Award" in the category "Best use of online videos, especially VR". The prize was presented in Vienna to the project manager and deputy editor-in-chief of Rossiya Segodnya, Natalia Losseva.

"'Mechanics of Autism' was the first VR project for RIA Novosti. But it is all the better that the Russian reporters' experiments in the field of high-tech journalism have been so quickly recognised by the world's most influential journalistic organisation," said Natalya Losseva at the award ceremony.

The VR story "Mechanics of Autism" gives users the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of a person with an "autistic spectrum disorder". The aim of this project is to show people who have no idea about such disorders how these or those reactions arise, what triggers such reactions as stimulation, panic or fear and why. The project was launched in November 2018. Experts from the Fund for Promoting the Solution of Autism Problems in Russia "Vykhod" and Natalia Vodyanova's "Naked Heart" foundation were involved in the project.

The VR story is available in the apps of the same name in the App Store (for iOS devices) and on Google Play (for Android devices).
