In a fortnight, the time has come. Spectacular films of aerial acrobatics shows or about the adventure of free diving will be shown at Uto Kulm: The virtual reality open-air cinema, which we have already announced, will then start on the Üetliberg.

Until now, it was unclear whether the event could be held in its planned form. The environmentalists from the Pro Üetliberg association filed a complaint with the municipality of Stallikon. The use of the area near the Uto Kulm Hotel by up to 150 people every evening for two performances was too much for the nature reserve and not in conformity with the cantonal Uto Kulm design plan, they complained in the complaint at the end of May.

"In the meantime, the Stalliker building commission has examined this request and has come to the conclusion that the cinema event does not require a permit," says municipal clerk Roberto Brunelli upon request. In other words: The open-air cinema can go ahead as planned. This decision was based on the fact that no structural measures were necessary for the cinema evenings.

The existing number of tables and chairs will also be used. "Moreover, the cinema will not be held on the panorama terrace, but in the outdoor restaurant area, where there are tables and chairs anyway," says Brunelli.

Effects can be great

Margrith Gysel, president of the Pro Üetliberg Association, had seen such a decision coming. "Nevertheless, we do not agree with it. From her point of view, it has not been conclusively clarified whether the event really does not require a special permit. "For example, 150 people make two pilgrimages to the mountain every evening for a month. The negative effects on the plants and animals in the protected area where the Uto Kulm is located can be great," says Gysel.

According to Brunelli, the Stalliker building commission sees things differently. "The maximum number of people present at the Uto Kulm each evening does not change as a result of the virtual reality cinema operation, so no permit is required," Brunelli continues.

Gysel assumes that the virtual reality cinema is unstoppable for this year. "We have decided not to go to court."
