Building maintenance with AR

With the latest augmented reality solution from the agency Cubera Solutions AG, planners and construction work can easily make building structures visible.

If you talk to the people in charge from the agency Cubera Solutions AG it quickly becomes technical for non-experts. The company description already says: "We speak HTML5, C# and PHP and shake hands with Android and iOS. When I asked about the latest VR projects, they also said: "Our latest reference project is called BIM to AR enables the BIM (Building Information Modelling) data created in the planning and construction phase to be used visually for building maintenance.

The area of application of this technology is suitable for larger buildings, shopping centres, industrial buildings, health care facilities or public facilities that were planned with BIM. It is aimed at building technicians and planners who need information about the buildings on site.

BIM to AR simply explained

What the average consumer is supposed to understand by this, if he wants to know what it is all about, can be seen quite simply in the video contribution:

Simply put, BIM to AR is about making the building structure visible with the help of augmented reality without damaging the building fabric. Planners, facility managers and construction workers can thus quickly see what is behind ceilings, walls and floors that have already been plastered. For example, the user can see with the glasses where power and water lines or ventilation ducts pass through. Any additional information can be called up via the menu, be it the height of the room, materials or the number of sockets in the room. Any problems are detected much earlier and construction procedures as well as planning and implementation processes are optimised.

The application thus offers real added value for everyone involved in the construction process. Unlike unwieldy, often difficult-to-understand two-dimensional plans, the digital visualisation is available at any time and for any user. It thus offers completely new possibilities for communication on the construction site and in later maintenance.

BIM to AR is currently available exclusively for Microsoft's augmented reality glasses (HoloLens).
