Anyone sitting in armour only has a limited view - at least until now. In future, Israeli soldiers will be able to look through the armour with the help of VR, so to speak, instead of having to hold their heads out of the hatch for a panoramic view. This is to be made possible by "Iron Vision". The virtual reality system, which was developed by Israeli defence company Elbit Systems, consists of helmet screens, acceleration sensors and cameras mounted on the outside of the tank. The documented data is played directly onto the screen integrated into the helmet and shows live what is happening around the armour. According to the manufacturer, "Iron Vision" is to be installed as standard in the Israeli Merkava IV tanks within the next three to four years.
