Intel and the IOC have a Cooperation confirmedwhich begins with the next Winter Olympics (9 to 25 February 2018 in South Korea). Intel will broadcast the sporting event live in 360 degrees and in stereoscopic 3D. TrueVR technology will be used to ensure interference-free live streams.
In addition to the familiar 360-degree live streaming, Intel is relying on a new VR recording technology that is being trialled at the Winter Olympics. This involves filming with numerous 5K cameras. A spatial video is then calculated from this. According to Intel, viewers can use the "360 Replay" technology experience the most important moments from several angles.
Intel's VR offering will be available for Samsung Gear VR and Google Daydream View. Intel would also like to support at least one stationary VR system such as Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. However, details are not yet known. Incidentally, the contract runs until 2024, which is why upcoming Olympic Games will also be accompanied by Intel's technologies.
