Developer syncs HTC Vive and Hololens to create a mixed reality experience

Take a pinch of VR and a dash of AR, mix it all together and voilà: the result is something very ingenious. The developer Drew Gottlieb gave a preview at the beginning of the week of how virtual and augmented reality could be combined in the future.

Hololens and HTC Vive share the same virtual space

The mixed reality experiment is still in its infancy and is kept very simple. Gottlieb has only been working on it for a few days. But it is a good illustration of what will be possible in the future. Mixed reality will certainly soon offer many opportunities for collaboration.

With a simple application, he draws simple 3-D objects in the air with the controllers of the HTC Vive. The same app also runs on the Microsoft Hololens in real time. The drawing is synchronised and the Hololens wearer can see the objects drawn in VR in reality. Conversely, the Hololens user sees the VR glasses wearer in VR as an avatar.

Anyone who owns both devices may conduct the experiment free of charge download.

Microsoft already showed their vision of Mixed Reality last year. Now it seems to become real soon.
