Hulu launches 360-degree format with musicians

The streaming service Hulu startet sein neues 360-Grad-Format, wie bestätigt wurde. Dabei handelt es sich um „OnStage“, das im Prinzip eine klassische Backstage-Reportage in 360 Grad ist. Allerdings werden nicht nur die Live-Konzerte von verschiedenen Künstlern gezeigt. Die Musiker werden persönlich vorgestellt, weswegen man als Fan mehr von ihnen erfahren kann. In jeder Folge wird ein neuer Künstler beleuchtet.

It starts with the well-known US rapper Lil Wayne, who you can meet below in the 360-degree trailer sehen könnt. Laut den Verantwortlichen bei Hulu ist Lil Wayne ohnehin ein Virtual-Reality-Enthusiast. In der zweiten Episode von „OnStage“ werden die Zuschauer Major Lazer auf eine Party in Jamaika begleiten. Hulu setzt bei VR auf Musik, da dadurch ein hoher Wiederspielwert erreicht wird. Man kann sich die Videos immer wieder anschauen, um neue Details zu entdecken.

As Hulu notes, the VR videos should be so compelling that you'll want to show them to friends and family. Hulu has long offered a VR app for its own service, which is available for Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, Daydream and Samsung Gear VR, but often only conventional 2D content is presented on a virtual cinema screen. You can look around the virtual space, but the video remains in 2D. However, real 360-degree content is also included.
