Kathryn Bigelow, die für „Zero Dark Thirty“ und „The Hurt Locker“ bekannt ist, ist eine der gefragtesten Regisseurinnen in Hollywood. Mit „The Protectors: Walk in the Ranger’s Shoes“ hat sie ihren ersten VR-Film gedreht, der ein durchaus ernstes Thema behandelt. „The Protectors“ viene presentato al Tribeca Film Festival di New York. In questo film a 360 gradi, gli spettatori seguono i ranger del parco nel Parco nazionale congolese di Garamba. Ogni giorno rischiano la vita per proteggere gli elefanti dai bracconieri che cercano il loro avorio.
„The Protectors: Walk in the Ranger’s Shoes“ ist in Zusammenarbeit mit National Geographic entstanden. Kathryn Bigelow hält das VR-Format als besonders geeignet, um auf die Problematik aufmerksam zu machen, da man eine direktere und emotionalere Verbindung zu dem Inhalt aufbauen kann. „The Protectors: Walk in the Ranger’s Shoes“ wird am 1. Mai 2017 über die 360-Grad-Plattform „Within VR“ erscheinen, die unter anderem als kostenlose App auf Steam, im Oculus-Store sowie bei Google Play und iTunes erhältlich ist.
