Switzerland is a digital stronghold until 23 October. As part of the Swiss Digital Days numerous events will be organised on topics such as cybersecurity, VR and AR as well as fake news - each week in a different region. The next stop will be the Digital Days organised by Digitalswitzerland in the greater Zurich area.
The centrepiece of the Swiss Digital Days are the so-called "bubbles". These inflatable visitor centres, which are set up at a new location almost every day, serve as a venue for events - but also as an information point to find out where something exciting can be experienced.
On Tuesday, 20 September, the bubbles will be set up on the Rathausbrücke in Zurich. On this day, various digital topics will be illustrated there from 11 am to 6 pm. For example, the city of Zurich will be demonstrating how the city's air quality is monitored using sensors with a live experiment on particulate matter pollution. Computer animations can also be used to take a look at how the city of Zurich has changed over the centuries.
HoloPlanning - digitally planning the city of the future with augmented reality
The city of Zurich is growing and developing. The city is also using HoloPlanning to plan the future of Zurich: Planned projects are visualised with augmented reality. Visitors can put on augmented reality glasses themselves at the information stand, see selected projects from Zurich-Affoltern and experience the Urban planning of the future experience.
Safe Truck VR
The city of Zurich also offers the opportunity to Safe Truck a change of perspective. Visitors can use virtual reality glasses to experience how dangerous the blind spot of a lorry is. They can sit behind the virtual wheel of a lorry. An impressive virtual experience that gives drivers, pedestrians and cyclists a change of perspective and sensitises them to the challenges of urban traffic.
Morph Tales: The game for future AI champions
ETH is also involved. In "Morph Tales - Discover artificial intelligence", everything revolves around the young, studious artificial intelligence called Morph. She dreams of one day taking part in a mission to Mars as a research assistant. But first she has to pass the tricky entrance exam to Morphtopia, the campus for up-and-coming AI talent. Without a human exam trainer, however, this is a hopeless endeavour for Morph - only humans are able to teach young AIs what behaviour is desirable and purposeful.
This is where visitors come into play. As Morph's new trainer, you help her to master various challenges on a varied test course. For example, recognising weeds in a field and reducing the use of fertilisers and pesticides; independently steering a sailing boat and relieving the pilot in complex weather conditions; filtering out the most promising molecules for new drugs in the laboratory or independently taking samples on distant planets and searching for alien life.
The game, developed by Game Technology and the AI Centre at ETH Zurich, aims to introduce young people to the topic of artificial intelligence in a playful way. The focus is not only on knowledge transfer and motivation for a STEM degree programme, but also on dealing with ethical issues. What characterises a reliable AI whose results are always comprehensible?
At the Digital Days, ETH Zurich will be presenting a sneak preview of the mini-game Wirkstoffdesign - one of a total of four games that will make up the entire "Morph Tales - Discovering Artificial Intelligence" test course. The game is played with an iPad and uses augmented reality (AR) to combine reality and the virtual game world into a new kind of gaming experience.
